Massively popular Muslim marriage app Muzz has taken a bold step into the social media landscape with the launch of "Muzz Social", a platform specifically designed for Muslim users seeking connection and community within a faith-based environment.
Coming hot on the heels of the app surpassing 10 million users, Muzz Social tackles concerns often voiced by Muslim communities regarding mainstream social media platforms. Issues like shadow-banning of sensitive topics, censorship, and exposure to inappropriate content are addressed head-on by Muzz Social's commitment to Muslim values and 24/7 moderation.
Features and Functionality
Muzz Social integrates seamlessly with the existing Muzz app and can be accessed easily using the globe icon in the Muzz app's bottom navigation bar. The platform offers a dedicated Feed tab showcasing content similar to Twitter and a Groups tab for focused discussions within specific communities. The platform boasts several noteworthy features:
Friendship Focus: Beyond the quest for life partners, Muzz Social prioritises friendships. Whether someone is seeking like-minded friends or meaningful connections, the platform provides a halal environment for both.
Groups and Community: Join groups based on interests, location, and other preferences. Users are also automatically added to relevant groups based on their profile information. For example, a Muslim woman in London will be added to both the "London Muslims" group and the "London Sisters" group.
Anonymous posting: Users can choose anonymity for sensitive topics and questions, fostering open and honest discussions.
Automated moderation: AI-powered tools flag and remove inappropriate content, ensuring a respectful environment.
Community-driven moderation: Inappropriate content that hasn't been caught automatically by the platform can be reported for review to the Muzz Community team in-app.
Transparency and control: No "dark algorithms" or shadow-banning, giving users control over their experience.
Expansion Plans and Future Features
Muzz Social is available to existing Muzz members in the UK, US, Canada, and Australia. However, the platform plans to open to everyone in April 2024 and achieve a full global rollout across all languages by June/July 2024. Muzz has also outlined a few new features that are on the horizon, including custom groups, events, and private chat options.
Muzz Social's launch marks a significant step towards creating a dedicated online space for Muslims to connect and has got off to a promising start with over 6,000 posts and 20,000 comments in just one day. As the platform evolves and expands, it will be interesting to see how it shapes the future of online Muslim communities.
