In the age of information saturation, distinguishing truth from false news poses a substantial challenge. Enter NewsCord, the newest creation to come from the #HackForGaza initiative by Deen Developers. NewsCord strives to reshape the landscape of news consumption by harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to offer insights into how global news outlets approach the same stories.
Through the use of Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), the core of the platform compares articles from around the world to summarise each piece and highlight variations in narratives by bridging information gaps, revealing tone disparities and unveiling subtle nuances that may otherwise go unnoticed. If that's not enough, users can get even more context on the article they're researching by asking questions to the "WikiBot" - a convenient chatbot that finds and uses the closest Wikipedia page to the article being read to answer questions.
Using Newscord is very straightforward; simply paste an article's URL into the search bar and wait for the AI to run its analysis. Alternatively, there's a trending news page where users can discover top news for each topic. And for those who want on-the-fly summaries and analysis, users can integrate NewsCord into their daily news consumption routine through a Chrome extension that can be used whenever users are reading a news article in the Chrome browser.
NewsCord is not without its disclaimers, acknowledging the inherent challenges of AI processing. Users are cautioned about potential paraphrasing, the normalcy of picking up on points not mentioned in article summaries, and the imperfect nature of the models. NewsCord encourages users to always refer to full articles before drawing any conclusions.
Nevertheless, NewsCord emerges as a promising tool, utilising advanced AI to empower users with a more informed perspective. As the platform continues to evolve, it may very well become an indispensable ally in the fight against disinformation and bias.
